Description

Krzysztof Eugeniusz Penderecki (23 November 1933 – 29 March 2020) was a Polish composer, conductor and music educator.
His works are known as post-serial and he is best known for his sound compositions. He was seen as one of the leading composers of the Polish avant-garde, sometimes he was also called a late modern classic. In later life he also used other styles.

Penderecki was one of the few contemporary composers of the avant-garde who achieved wide recognition. A milestone was the Trauermusik für die Opfer von Hiroshima (Threnos), completed in 1961, for 52 string instruments and written partly in graphic notation, using the new notation that subsequently developed into a standard for many avant-garde compositions.
