NPasen: Above all, The Precious Cross is a song for reflection. Of course, there is the beauty of this hymn, which, thanks to the increasingly spatial structure, works towards that moment of surrender at the foot of that cross. But above all, there is that realization of the preciousness of that cross. When we focus our gaze on the magnitude of the sacrifice, we experience a deeper gratitude for what it gives us. A song that fits very well with the celebration of the Lord's Supper. Isaac Watts also wrote it in preparation for this. His text is linked here to the music of Hal Hopson's Gift Of Love. And thanks to the versatility in performance (a cappella or with piano) it never loses its power.
